MATTHEW THE HORSE
Living in: Leeds, UK
What is in your sketchbook?
Recently I’ve been drawing horses, pan pipes, sexy ladies, maracas, jazz trumpeters and children’s toys. My sketch book is full of rushed drawings that I’m not very pleased with. Occasionally something happens that I will try and make happen again, but better.
Where do you illustrate?
At my desk. I draw everywhere, but to illustrate implies making a crafted, designed and complete piece of work. I use sketchbook drawings to figure out how I’m going to make a piece of work when I finally get to my desk.
What inspires your work?
Energy, fun and silliness. I try to find a subject to work with that resonates with a certain voice. It’s sort of like the stupid noises teenage boys like to make.
What music do you listen to?
Woah, thats a big one. I like interesting lyrics, I like smooth vibrations, I like integrity. Have you tried the new Bill Callahan album? Whatevers, as long as it sounds like a feeling.
What did you have for breakfast?
I was supposed to have a fruit salad, but I had a bacon sandwich.
