LFW Day I – Corrie Nielsen, A step in time

My first appointment of the day was for the Corrie Nielsen show. I got the chance to see Corrie Nielsen’s work last year at the Fashion Fringe exhibition in Convent Garden, where John Galliano crowned her winner of the night. A much expected show, this time at the main catwalk venue of Somerset House which couldn’t been better location to show her next season.

The collection entitled “A winter’s melodie” (no I didn’t misspell that) was inspired in the Elizabethan era. Bulgy necks, puffed shoulders, exquisitely tailored trousers and skirts in a rather conservative colour palette of blacks, greys, off whites and an occasional carmine and deep emerald towards the last looks that enhanced the beauty of the whole collection.

The styling was fantastic. Pale skins, simple make up and braids on every model’s head closing with a dramatic bee hive adorned with blond braids that was simply gorgeous.

A wonderful first solo catwalk show, in a setting more than appropriated considering Queen Elizabeth lived in Somerset House before her accession to the throne… in a year when Royalty will headline the news, I wonder how many will choose Corrie Nielsen to keep up with the royal spirit?
