“Getting Started” with Blogger Mademoiselle Robot

LAETITIA WAJNAPEL, the mind behind the style and lifestyle blog MADEMOISELLE ROBOT, graced our Pop-Up shop on Wednesday April 7th to give a “Getting Started” lecture. Laetitia arrived at our space looking every part the style blogger. She wore a gorgeous Chloe-look-a-like cape, Swedish Hasbeens, and a vintage satchel bag.

After a cup of tea and a bit of rearranging, the lecture began. Laetitia began her talk with the story of how everything started for her.

Graduating university with a MA in film studies, she started working in the gaming industry, as well as a freelance journalist for various publications in Paris. Living by her motto to “Do what you like and follow your instincts,” she moved to London in 2004.

Soon after, Laetitia became pregnant and had a baby girl. In 2007, she decided that it was time to get back into writing. She created a blog ‘Mademoiselle Robot’. Although it started out as a pop culture and style blog, it soon transformed into style as well. Her blog traffic developed rather organically, and gradually grew throughout the years. She explained that she is a strong believer in staying true to herself and always being honest while blogging.

At this point, the lecture was open to the floor for questions. When asked about getting into the fashion industry, Laetitia stated that her blog had indeed become a platform for her. Comparing her previous experience, she says that “the gaming industry is easy to navigate” whilst fashion is something different in which she prefers to “stay under the radar”.

On the frequency of posts, Laetitia commented that she posts around once a day, five days a week, explaining that posting seven days a week is a lot harder then most people think.  However, she feels “no pressure on updates anymore” and if she “loses readership, it doesn’t matter because it’s enjoyable” for her. When sifting through ideas and what to write about, Laetitia will prioritize certain content and what relates to her most. She explains that when posting, she refuses to post anything she isn’t proud of. When it comes to bad quality posts, she exclaims, “why bother?” If a post isn’t perfected or up to Laetitia’s standards, she won’t post it. Laetitia comments on other bloggers and bad posting, saying that “you can smell it if you have another agenda,” ie. blogging for fame or getting into fashion shows and parties.

While working freelance may seem like a lonely endeavor, Laetitia explains that it does something for her. The isolation helps to keep her mind clear and really allows her to focus on her blog.

Laetitia is currently working as a fashion and social media consultant, as well as updating her blog.
