Trend forecast
“Put all your dresses in a trunk and turn it over every 5 years and you will always be in fashion”. That’s the advice an old and well-travelled auntie gave to my grandmother, who passed it on to my mother who passed it on to me. Although highly romantic, the assertion of this style tip hasn’t always been precise, let alone practical and –with all due respect to my lovely relatives- I wouldn’t recommend major retails or designers to set their designs based on it.
Today’s market and its relentless race against time need more accurate tools. Stylesight is one of them. Defined by their Senior Vice President Isham Sardouk as the 21st Century version of a trend forecasting service, their approach is to offer more images and less text, providing a digital visual library that covers millions of images of women’s, men’s and children’s fashion as well as interiors and analyses designers collections across the globe to serve as inspiration for new ideas and product development.
They have already gave their vision for Autumn/Winter 2012 at their Hong Kong Fashion Week seminar earlier this month, predicting a more clean palette than the current trends, no more “tutti-frutti mixes” and red as core colour (one is very happy about that). Bigger shapes; scuba diving-influenced leggings and the death of the formalwear were also items in their forecast. Lovers of rustic look will be in luck, with the use of fringe, embroidery and weaving.
Stylesight will hold their inaugural LIVE seminar on August 3rd at The Times Centre in NY, where they will be discussing Megatrends for A/W 2012 and S/S 2013.
Forget the colour mix & match for A/W 2012
